    Obtaining a sponsor licence is the formal authorisation that allows a UK business to employ non-settled workers under the Worker and Temporary Worker routes. The regime is technical and spread across hundreds of pages of Home Office guidance.     Who needs a Sponsor Licence?<\/b><\/h3>

    If your UK company intends to employ non-settled workers under routes such as the Skilled Worker or Global Business Mobility routes, you must hold a Sponsor Licence.<\/p>

    The application is made online and must be supported by specified documentation. Once approved, the business will use the Sponsorship Management System (SMS) to assign Certificates of Sponsorship (CoS) to eligible roles.<\/p>

    A Sponsor Licence is granted without a fixed expiry date. However, licences are subject to ongoing compliance monitoring and may be suspended or revoked if sponsor duties are not met. A licensed business will be added to the public Register of Sponsors<\/a> and may then sponsor workers who meet the relevant immigration requirements.<\/p>

    UKVI may conduct pre-licence compliance visits (either in person or remotely), and in some cases may inspect home addresses where sponsored workers are based remotely.<\/p>

    In practice, the Home Office now applies increased scrutiny to the \u201cgenuine vacancy\u201d requirement, particularly for smaller or first-time sponsors. Caseworkers will assess whether the role is credible in the context of the business\u2019s size, structure, and level of trading activity.<\/p>
