Unlike many other work-based routes, it does not require a job offer or a sponsor, and can lead to Indefinite Leave to Remain (ILR) in three or five years. It replaced the Tier 1 (Exceptional Talent) visa in February 2020.<\/p><h3 data-pm-slice=\"1 3 []\">Why Choose the Global Talent Route?<\/h3><p>The Global Talent route is designed to attract individuals with exceptional talent or exceptional promise. Endorsed applicants are granted significant flexibility:<\/p><ul><li>No job sponsorship requirement<\/li><li>Right to work (including self-employment and run your own business)<\/li><li>Accelerated route to settlement (3 or 5 years depending on endorsement)<\/li><li>Option to bring dependants<\/li><li>Lower Visa Application Fees<\/li><li>Flexible in choosing the length of your visa, initially up to five years<\/li><\/ul><h3 data-pm-slice=\"1 1 []\">Global Talent Stage I: Endorsement Application or Qualifying Prize\u00a0<\/h3><h5 data-pm-slice=\"1 1 []\">1. Global Talent: Endorsement-Based Application<\/h5><p>Most applicants must first obtain endorsement from a Home Office-approved endorsing body. Each endorsing body applies their distinct criteria. Generally, applicants must demonstrate a strong record of achievement and recognition by peers or industry leaders. If your discipline is covered by PACT, BFC or RIBA, your application will be transferred by Arts Council England to the relevant organisation for a specialist assessment.<\/p><ul><li>Arts Council England \u2013 for arts, culture, architecture, fashion, film &amp; TV<\/li><li>Tech Nation \u2013 for digital technology professionals<\/li><li>The Royal Society, British Academy, Royal Academy of Engineering \u2013 for science, engineering, and humanities<\/li><li>UKRI (UK Research and Innovation) \u2013 for science, engineering, humanities, social science and medicine research posts\u00a0<\/li><\/ul><h5>2. Global Talent: Winner of a Prestigious Prize<\/h5><p>If you have received an award listed under <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/government\/publications\/global-talent-eligible-prize-list\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Global Talent eligible prize lists<\/a>, you can apply for the Global Talent visa without an endorsement and apply directly for a visa. To be eligible for this route:<\/p><ul><li>the prize must be named on the list &#8211; other prizes awarded by the same institutions are not eligible<\/li><li>you must be the named winner of the prize<\/li><\/ul><h3>Global Talent Visa Extension Requirements<\/h3><p>You may extend your Global Talent Visa an unlimited number of times. To qualify for an extension:<\/p><ul><li>You must have earned money in your endorsed field (or field of your prestigious prize).<\/li><li>Your endorsing body must not have withdrawn your endorsement.<\/li><li>You must not fall for refusal under the General Grounds for Refusal.<\/li><\/ul><h3>ILR Under the Global Talent Visa Route<\/h3><h5>How does the Accelerated Settlement Work?<\/h5><p class=\"p1\">The <span class=\"s1\">Global Talent Visa<\/span> offers one of the most flexible and attractive pathways to settlement in the UK. Depending on the type of endorsement or award you hold, you may be eligible to apply for <span class=\"s1\">Indefinite Leave to Remain (ILR)<\/span> after <span class=\"s1\">only 3 years<\/span> of residence, rather than the standard 5-year period.<\/p><h5><b>When Can Global Talent Visa Holders Apply for ILR After 3 Years?<\/b><\/h5><p>Global Talent visa holders may be eligible for Indefinite Leave to Remain (ILR) after 3 years if:<\/p><ul><li>you were endorsed by the Royal Society, British Academy, Royal Academy of Engineering or UKRI; or<\/li><li>you were endorsed under the exceptional talent criteria by Arts Council England or Tech Nation; or<\/li><li>you were granted initial application using a prize listed in Appendix Global Talent: Prestigious Prizes.<\/li><\/ul><h5><b>Can Time Spent in Other Visa Categories Count?<\/b><\/h5><p class=\"p1\">Yes. Time spent in other eligible visa categories can be combined with time under the Global Talent route to meet the 3-year residence requirement, provided your final year is spent on the Global Talent Visa under a qualifying route. Eligible categories include:<\/p><ul><li>Global Talent; or<\/li><li>Innovator Founder; or<\/li><li>Skilled Worker; or<\/li><li>T2 Minister of Religion; or<\/li><li>International Sportsperson; or<\/li><li>Tier 1, other than Tier 1 (Graduate Entrepreneur); or<\/li><li>Scale-up; or<\/li><li>Representative of an Overseas Business<\/li><\/ul><p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\"><b>Example<\/b><\/span>: An applicant who held a Skilled Worker visa for two years and then switched to a Global Talent visa endorsed by UKRI could apply for ILR after just one further year on the Global Talent route.<\/p><h5><b>5-Year Route to ILR: Exceptional Promise<\/b><\/h5><p class=\"p1\">Applicants endorsed under the <span class=\"s1\">exceptional promise<\/span> criteria (Arts Council or Tech Nation) are eligible for ILR <span class=\"s1\">after 5 years<\/span> of continuous residence, provided they meet all other requirements.<\/p><h5><b>What is the Global Talent&#8217;s Continuous Residence Requirement?<\/b><\/h5><p class=\"p1\">To qualify for ILR, Global Talent visa holders must satisfy the <span class=\"s1\">continuous residence<\/span> requirement. This means you must not have been outside the UK for more than <span class=\"s1\">180 days in any rolling 12-month period<\/span>. However, absences related to <span class=\"s1\">international research activities<\/span> (for those endorsed in science, engineering, or research roles) may be exempt.<\/p><h3><b>Applying for the Global Talent Visa from Outside the UK<\/b><\/h3><p class=\"p3\">If you are currently based outside the UK, you may submit your Global Talent Visa application through the nearest UK Visa Application Centre after receiving a valid <span class=\"s2\">endorsement<\/span> or holding an eligible <span class=\"s2\">prestigious prize<\/span>. You can choose a visa duration of <span class=\"s2\">1 to 5 years<\/span>, depending on your plans and budget. Visa applications from inside the UK may be processed within 8 weeks or 3 weeks if you are outside the UK.
